Recipe Rifle is away

I'm in Sussex on "holiday" (DON'T bother burgling me, I've got builders in and a friend staying) and I've forgotten the lead that joins my camera to my laptop. So I can't post any photos. And I know you can't abide a post without a photo so I haven't done anything.

But it's a bit of a shame because it's quite pretty round here and my husband is making some kind of daube of beef thing that I think might be worth writing about.

Should I drive into the local village, Midhurst, and see if someone will sell me this essential cable? Or more likely round here I will have to swap something for it like my shoes, or a pair of Levis or something.

  2. Do you have a memory card reader in your laptop? If so just take the card out the camera and put it inside the laptop :) Or... just enjoy!

  3. If the Daube of Beef is good, then you will make it again at some point and blog about it then. Echo the above - enjoys your hols!

  4. I used to live in Fernhurst, just up the road from Midhurst and still live relatively locally. It's a lovely area so just enjoy it!

PS - would love to see Daube when you get back
PPS - barter system still probably in common use in Midhurst although cattle probably better than jeans

  5. Bugger it. Enjoy the holiday. But this avid reader doesn't mind a word picture; brown threads of meat on top half of plate. Mash of carbohydrates down the bottom. Fawnish. Some herbs on top. Etc.

  6. There's actually an ok computer shop in Midhurst in the main street, next to Stepping Out in Style (yes, really) - slightly grumpy man when last I went but seemed to be well stocked with a multitude of cables in various hues. Hard cash or free range eggs acceptable currency I believe.

  7. Yes I went to that one, but the grumpy man must be on holiday because I bought one in the end from a very charming boy. I quite like Stepping out in Style actually from the look of the window. Might sneak myself an hour off from baby duty in the next week and have a rummage through their sales racks.

  8. Hope rummage is successful - it's been a source of the odd marvellous thing (and sometimes just the odd) all the better for coming from somewhere called Stepping out in Style. On a food related note, the butcher opposite doesn't look like much but is rather good and the Cowdray Farm shop is massively overpriced but has great locally sourced meat, bread and tomatoes. And a baby friendly cafe. At least, I've seen babies in it and they looked reasonably happy.

  9. I've tried umpteen recipes for Beouf en daube, so please can we see Himindoor's version?

Midhurst is very pretty, and aren't all those YELLOW houses at hoot? Petworth is worth a look, lots of open space, and a nice NT cafe.
